Being that my mom has sold our family restaurant (really just her’s since she worked there every single day for 11 years), I’ve come to find a special place in my heart for family owned businesses. I’m also not a big fan of the “know it all” average Joe food critics you find on sites like yelp.com who often times think they know everything there is to know about food, culture, and fine dining.
That’s why I’m going to make it a New Year’s Resolution of mine to try at least one new restaurant every 2 weeks (or when my paychecks allow) and write an honest review of the place. Sorry to those of you who don’t live in the Los Angeles area, but at least you’ll have a guide to some of the best finds in Los Angeles when you decide to stop by! Plus if you read in one of my earlier posts, I’m making it a point to travel more this year, so maybe I’ll end up hitting up one of your spots!
If I don’t, then feel free to write a short guide to your hometown and send it to me (I’ll give you credit of course!) so I can post it and we can all read about how wonderful your town is.
I recently got into Kirigami (as in about 2 days ago) but I’ve always been a fan of pop-up art. I found a book at the library the other day that taught me the basics (with some complicated designs thrown in there) of pop up cards and I’ve been in love with the craft since. So I did a little bit of investigating for you on what I think is one of the best sites to give you some fun patterns leaving you to wonder, “did I just do that?” Yes you did. And all you need is some cardstock to print the design on, a stencil Xacto Knife (about $3 at a craft store), and some patience.
Check out this site for some beautiful patterns. Just beware of the pop ups! There are a lot, but it’s worth it in the end.
I did this one:

Well, I eventually did go to sleep, just a tad later than what I was planning (planned for 10, slept at 11:30). I began with the intentions of making some Christmas Cards to send out, but once I saw the possibilities of the primary colors + white and all the pretty colors that the cardstock pack I bought came in, I couldn’t stop. I’m really happy with the results of how the cards came out, even if they are pretty plain, sometimes, the plain designs are the best. Wouldn’t you agree? If I had all of your addresses, I would send you all (my few readers) some Holiday Cards, but I don’t. I’ll try to make something super cool for you come Valentine’s Day.
